Job Description
SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Fleet Superintendent, this position is responsible for performing skilled Journeyman work in the body repair and painting of all City owned vehicles and equipment. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, during inclement weather and overtime as needed by the department. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
ESSENTIAL RESPONIBILITIES
- Repairs body damage on all vehicles and equipment.
- Prepares body for paint: sands, blocks, applies primer, color match, blending.
- Paints vehicle to match. Color blends. Responsible for mixing paint and maintain supplies.
- Performs minor mechanical work to repair/replace body damage.
- Determines and performs work needed from work orders.
- Writes up repairs done on work orders.
- Repairs, fabricates, or replaces damaged body parts, preps area to be painted, matches paint and blends to existing paint on all vehicles and equipment owned by the City of Amarillo
- Evaluates damage and reports any major issues to supervisor..
- Responsible for minor maintenance of paint booth and paint mixing room. Filters, shakers, mixers.
- Responsible for basic tools to perform work as described.
- Keeps up to date with latest techniques and products.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to operate paint guns, grinders, sanders, files, drills, pullers, jacks, sandblasters, acetylene welder, arc welder, port-a-power and related supplies found in a paint or body shop.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skill.
- Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
- Ability to operate and drive various vehicles found in a City fleet.
Licenses/Certification
Required Qualifications
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience as a paint and body repairman.
Completion of an apprenticeship program in paint and body repairs, required.
No police record except minor traffic violations.
Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License Required.
