Part-time Academic Position
We require qualified individual/s to teach maintenance welding skills intended to provide participants with a basic understanding of the safe application of both the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or “stick”) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or “MIG”) processes with theoretical instruction and shop practice. The Instructor will provide participants with an understanding of the basic principles of arc welding methods, oxy-fuel cutting and gas and metal arc welding, in addition to shop safety.
The position is offered on a casual contract basis with deliveries scheduled as early as September 2022; flexible hours required as scheduled shifts may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. The compressed nature of some deliveries requires a temporary, full-time hours commitment by the instructor. Incumbents may be scheduled to work at the Doon (Kitchener), Waterloo, Cambridge, or Guelph campuses.
Qualifications:
Certificate of Apprenticeship and Certificate of Qualification in Welder trade
Will consider candidates with post-secondary training in welding
Practical experience in a Welding shop at the Journeyperson level is preferred
Previous experience teaching and/or demonstrating welding practical skills in a shop environment is very desirable
Strong understanding of theory with practical welding experience to teach Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW or “stick”) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or “MIG”) processes with theoretical instruction and shop practice.
Excellent leadership skills with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student success
Excellent organizational, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are required
