Overview

Troubleshoot Steam and Chilled Water distribution systems. Work scope includes working in confined spaces. Performing assignments on various equipment in a lead and/or assisting role with other team members to include identifying problems, correcting deficiencies, performing maintenance procedures, repairing, and replacing equipment. Typical equipment includes steam traps, pumps, motors, valves, gearboxes, piping and associated distribution equipment. Duties include assisting in process outages to perform varying repairs to thermal distribution infrastructure.

Duties include but not limited to securing pipes, tubes, fittings or related equipment according to specifications. Repairs may require the ability to use pipe threader, welder, saws, cutting torches. Operate pumps to remove water from underground vaults, basements or floors.

Monitor and inspect equipment, use of CMMS (AiM) to maintain daily logs of operations, maintenance and safety activities. Log test results, instrument readings and details of equipment malfunctions. Coordinate with other facility operation departments, outside contractors, and vendors to ensure assigned work is properly documented and scheduled.

Work Emergencies as needed.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Drives a State/UF Vehicle which requires incumbent possess and maintain a valid Class “E” Driver’s License

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Total hours per week 40
  • Works emergencies/evenings/weekends/holidays as needed.
  • Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy

A Criminal background check and post offer health assessment will be conducted.

Expected Salary:
$18.00 – $28.00 Per Hour; Starting pay rate will be based on experience and qualifications.

Minimum Requirements:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in pipe/steam fitting; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
EDUCATION & TRAINING

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in pipe/steam fitting.

EXPERIENCE: Possesses welding certificate and experience working with high pressure steam and

chilled water piping.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades or mechanical repair work
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for maintenance and repair work

SKILLS

  • Skilled in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work

ABILITIES

  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair steam motors, generators, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to take accurate measurements
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to and to use test, measurement, and control instrumentation
  • Ability to read a service request
  • Ability to recognize the proper materials and equipment to be used for a specific job and make change
