Overview
Job Description:
Pipe Welder I reports to Production Manager. Pipe welder I welds a variety of metal surfaces or pipe using various types of welding equipment according to specifications for Navy, fabrication shop & vessels. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Welding & Tacking
- Burning and Penetrations
- Tack & Weld Pipe
- Mather & Measurements
- Ship Terminology
- Weld all sockets
- Weld all P-3
- Pipe Brazing
Education / Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Welding Certification
- Must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to cut, weld, and perform other hot work on piping as required.
- Required to pass appropriate certification tests
- Blueprint Interpretation
- Must be able to obtain DBIDS credentials for Government base access
Preferred:
- Knowledge and understanding of shipboard piping systems to include repair / installation practices, procedures, pipe bending, alignments and troubleshooting using developed procedures
- Minimum 1 year of pipe welding experience preferred
Skills:
- Maintain ethics and professionalism in the duties and responsibilities of this position, understand proper care in handling materials, tools and equipment
- Weld pipe with consistent quality and safe work practices by understanding and following layouts, blueprints, and work specifications.
Physical Qualifications:
- Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position
- Must be available to work at heights, confined spaces and have ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes
- May involve carrying objects that weigh up to 50 lbs., frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching and walking
