Job description

Tyne is not a union shop. We require pipe fitters to help in the fabrication and installation of pipe spools for reactor process skids. Persons qualified as pipe fitters will be familiar with all of the standard processes for piping workshop skills in pipe fitting. They will be fully conversant with the reading of piping drawings and will prepare piping installations for welding by others. They will cut, shape, size and position piping so that welds can be successfully radiographed according to code. They will also assist in the installation of small pressure vessels into the skids and connect into the nozzles to avoid the high stresses on the nozzles that can occur in improperly installed piping. All piping will be carried out to a carefully arranged QA program.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications.
  • Cut, shape, size, position, so welds can be successfully radiographed according to code.
  • Join pipe through threading, soldering, and preparing pipe for welding by a pipe welder.
  • Secure pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand or power tools.
  • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
  • Maintain knowledge of all tools required to perform the pipe discipline.
  • Maintains work area and equipment.
  • Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often and operate machinery.
  • Visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 year of pipefitting experience or equivalent in technical training
  • High School Diploma
  • Must be authorized to work in the Canada without needing sponsorship at time of hiring or in the future.
