Background

Masco Steel Industries Limited was formed in 1984, to manufacture overhead cranes and other types of structural steel products. Masco Steel also service and inspect overhead cranes. Our manufactured products include, Jib Cranes, Monorail Cranes, Gantry Cranes, Bridge Cranes, Skids, and other fabricated equipment.

Masco Steel Industries is small organisation with over 20 members of Staff. Our customer base is throughout the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.

Masco Crane & Hoist has a Work Placement opportunity for an Internship/Co-op Student in the Manufacturing & Service Department. This position is ideal for a post-secondary student interested in gaining experience in the Welding/Electricalfield with the intent of supporting their personal development.

Student will be working under the supervision of Manufacturing Foreman/Journeyman Electrician. This Work Placement program will run from May 1st – August 13th.

Student Work Placement candidate will work alongside trained Journeyman Welders and trained Red Seal Electricians.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist in the manufacture of various steel products

· Operate tools and equipment including torches, gouging equipment and welding machines;

· Follow weld procedures to ensure quality products are always manufactured

· Manual dexterity with ability to lift to 30 lbs.

· Perform Shop Duties and any other duties which may be assigned by Shop Foreman

Required Knowledge & Experience:

· First or Second year student from the Welding/Electrical or other Manufacturing programs

· Ability to work accurately under pressure

· Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines

· Work as part of a team or individually as required

· Ensure that the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times

· Applicant must be reliable, committed, dedicated with excellent communication skills

· Applicant must adhere to all company policies including working safely and observing all safety rules to provide a safe place for all employees

· Applicant must be returning to post-secondary in the fall, preferable in Welding, Electrical, or Millwright

This position will be 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday. While this position does not start until May 1st, we are looking to interview and finalize our candidate selection as soon as possible. This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Student Work Placement Program (SWPP), as a result only Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Student must be registered with a recognized Canadian College or University, in a program or course where a work placement is part of their study plan.
