Production Supervisor (Packaging & Fabrication)

Shifts Available and Hours: Afternoon (2 to 10:00pm)

Job Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for the day to day management of people in the department. The Production Supervisor will report directly to the Packaging & Fabrication Manager.

Required Education/Experience:
Five years packaging and industry related experience

Experience in the use of technology to improve manufacturing processes

College Diploma or Technical Certificate

Comply with Health, Safety & Environmental requirements

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Capable of product and equipment inspection

Conflict resolution skills

Fluency in English, any other languages a plus

Able to communicate orally and in writing effectively with Managers, supervisors, peers and subordinates

Able to operate industry related equipment

Basic mechanical knowledge

Basic math and computer skills

Able to monitor production, recognizing and correcting production related problems

Job Responsibilities:
Supervise the day to day activities of the employees according to departmental requirements.

Ability to monitor packaging; recognizing and correcting packaging related problems.

Capable of product, equipment and packaging inspections.

Provide leadership in implementing and managing the prioritization of work tasks.

Oversees that customer packaging needs are met.

Ensure Health & Safety and Housekeeping objectives are met.

Perform safety reporting, inspections expected of a Supervisor in timely and effectively and enter cases in the system.

Supervise and maintain department areas to ensure that all units/materials are in designated areas.

Assists in ensuring that staffing requirements are met for the department, calling in employees to cover staffing as required.

Provide leadership, engage employees, mentor, coach, and provide developmental guidance for all employees.

Ensures employees receive training as appropriate. Evaluates the performance of probationary hourly employees in consultation with the Packaging Manager.

Examine the Manufacturing Status Report to identify missed orders to ensure completion.

Maintain departmental KPI’s and collaborate to make cost effective improvements.

Act as a liaison between Manufacturing and Shipping to ensure timely delivery of products.

Evaluate schedule to ensure timely packaging of product.

Inspect equipment and work area and contact maintenance as required.

Create and maintain work orders.

Strives to achieve quality targets. Plan work flow and work assignment by due date to ensure maximum utilization of employees, equipment and materials.

Inform appropriate Manager of existing or potential problems involving packaging and personnel.

Maintain accurate employee records on shift, as well as appropriate statistical data to be used to review quality, efficiency, scrap and overall crew performance.

Able to lead and promote a team environment and conducts team meetings.

Dispenses all necessary equipment, tools and supplies to Packaging Personnel.

Enforces the Collective Agreement as appropriate.

Must be available to work all shifts as necessary (nights, days and afternoons)

Must be able to cover vacation for other supervisors.

Must be able work OT when necessary.

Other duties as assigned.
