Overview
Responsible for ensuring all materials, components, and finished products meet code requirements, quality standards, and customer specifications effectively.
Works closely and collaborates with Fabrication Manager, Supervisors, Warehouse, Planning Team, and Manufacturing Engineering to develop, maintain, audit, and improve processes across the value stream.
The position is required to communicate professionally and in a timely manner with their team, QC manager, HR, HSE, Planning, Engineering, Design, Warehouse, and other EFX staff as necessary to support the needs of their team and work content. Supervisors are expected to be focused on their team’s individual results in context of the department results, strategically work at maximizing their team’s performance, and maintain the highest quality standards possible.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
Direct supervision and leadership of the fabrication quality control team comprised of inspectors, technicians, coordinators, and administrators
Responsible for managing the headcount aligned to workload and staff to the work schedules
Making OT recommendations to Manager and OT assignments to the team once approved by the manager.
Staff selection and development ‐‐ ensure staff has required qualifications and knowledge
Proposing level and/or pay changes for team members based on merit or advancement of skills.
Communicating feedback to team members on their performance, attendance, and quality.
Acting on personnel issues and follow up with employee counseling in a timely fashion.
Ensure product is manufactured in accordance with established practices, procedures, to meet contractual obligations, and in compliance with regulatory codes and standards
Support continuous improvement efforts that increase throughput, minimize cost, and maximize product quality
Responsible for managing 3rd party NDE Contractors which includes but may not be limited to; cost, timely performance of work, compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations and accurate documentation of examination records aligned to specific project requirements.
Assist with management of critical programs such as equipment calibration and process audits
Work with inspectors, fitters, and welders in all aspects of the job, this will include visual and dimensional inspections of pressure vessels / pipe spools, weld quality, proper fit up, etc.
Maintain and improve level of quality by managing and implementing inspection criteria and procedures
Develops metrics to report performance and compliance to management and fabrication employees
Development of various documents to support standardization and continuous improvement of processes
Lead and establish processes for welder testing, certification and verifying continuity of work to capabilities for all welders
Identify and resolve conflicts or concerns related to quality, scope, materials, and timelines
Active role in investigating and resolving problems related to fabrication quality and documentation
Implement corrective actions for identified process gaps, deficiencies, or defects
Communicating any policy changes to their teams.
Influencing the development and implementation of process improvements and/or training needed for team members.
Participating on teams as the Quality Control liaison as required
Perform other duties as required.
Job Specifications
2 to 4-year college certificate or degree preferred
CWI preferred
ISO 9001 lead auditor preferred
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience.
Minimum 3 years leadership experience.
Able to communicate effectively with vendors and customers.
Able to communicate with and lead cross‐functional teams.
Highly motivated and self‐directed.
Able to create and review technical documentation.
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
Able to develop, review, and maintain metrics.
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
Able to plan and organize resources to achieve desired results
Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.)
Working Conditions
Fast-paced production environment. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity.
Requires wearing PPE (Safety glasses, steel toe shoes, and ear plugs) while in the shop.
May be exposed to dust and high noise levels
May be required to work in confined spaces, on ladders, rooftops, and in unfavorable weather conditions
Manual dexterity required to use inspection tools, desktop computer and peripherals
Travel may be required
