Role Overview
Eclipse Automation is seeking a Quality Technician with prior Weld Inspection experience to join our team in Cambridge, ON. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Technician will perform inspections of purchased parts, subassemblies or finished company products according to well defined criteria using standard physical, mechanical and/ or electrical measurements.
The Quality Technician job responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Examine products and materials for defects or deviations from manufacturer or industry specifications.
- Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines, laser tracker, portable measuring arms by using PC-DMIS and PolyWorks software
- Work with Quality Engineers and Quality Manager to determine best practices to control quality on the manufacturing/assembly floor
- Inspect welded joints for visible defects, correct dimensions, bead formation and conformance with drawing specification. Examine joints to detect flaws such as cracks, cold weld, spatter and undercut.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations
- Engage in proactive measures, such as developing and implementing continuous improvement programs covering production processes and quality management systems
- Work with members of the supply chain to ensure the quality of raw materials, components or sub-assemblies and supporting documentation, meets Eclipse’s quality standards
- Drive “Zero Defect” mentality within the supply base
- Approve incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials
- Document inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database
- Monitor critical equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and calibration
- Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
- Maintain all controlled document files and test records in a timely and accurate manner
- Assist in the writing and updating inspection procedures, protocol and checklists
- Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action
- Expectation of travel to Eclipse locations is less than 10% of time, however, may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet organizational needs
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Post-Secondary Education in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality or other related discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ work experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Control role.
- ASQ designation as a Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT) is a definite asset.
- CWB Weld Inspector Level 1 Training and Certification preferred or relevant experience
- Working knowledge of measurement instruments
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications
- Good arithmetic skills are required
- Mechanical aptitude desired
