Overview
Caltrax is busy and looking to add two Railcar Repair Mechanics (Carman) to the team. This role is responsible for the maintenance of railcars in accordance with AAR Regulations. Along with some welding experience, this position requires a mechanical aptitude to perform maintenance repairs on railcars. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and work orders with a precise ability to implement written instructions. Repairs may occur in confined spaces and from heights with a focus on safety at all times.
- Perform scheduled and on demand maintenance as per written instruction
- Remove and replace defective components on rolling stock (trucks, shoes, coupler assemblies, air brake systems)
- Safely and effectively operate various power and hand tools, acetylene torches, electric and gas welding equipment, etc
- Read, understand, and interpret information from work orders, implementing as intended
- Communicate procedural information verbally and in writing providing accurate record of repairs
- Maintain safe work habits at all times
- Perform troubleshooting and problem solving independently
- Ensure work meets regulatory requirements
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
- Mechanic, repair experience required
- Previous welding experience however journeyman ticket not required
- Confined Space Entry and Fall Arrest experience an asset
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Able to perform work independently
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $22.00-$27.00 per hour
