Overview

Position Summary: Responsible for the welding repair of rail and track components, connecting rail joints by welding, rebuilding various track components, performing other maintenance-of-way welding tasks as assigned by the Director of Track Maintenance. Responsible for performing inspection of track when Roadmaster is on vacation or when assigned by Director of Track Maintenance.

Essential Job Functions:

Preheat rails in anticipation for preparation of welding.

Use welding torch and welding equipment to tack or weld track together.

Must be able to use cutting torch. Must understand how to distress rail using cutting torch

Use thermite welding material to fuse rails together.

Use grinders, profile and hand, to create a clean running surface.

Check the rail and measure for straightness and alignment to insure proper specifications.

Drive 26,000-pound GVR rated vehicle.

Use truck mounted crane to move and remove welding components to and from welding truck.

Perform track inspections in absences of Roadmaster and complete all FRA required reports.

Understand and comply with maintenance procedures

Perform any other duties assigned by Director of Track

Basic Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Certification in welding

One (1) year supervisory experience in maintenance of way track standards and policies.

Must hold a valid Texas CDL DOT driver’s license to drive on company business

Must possess a thorough working knowledge of and be current on General Code of Federal Regulations, Title(s) 49, Parts 213- Track Safety Standards and 214 – Roadway Worker Protection, as well as a through working knowledge of day-to-day railroad practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of railroad operating and maintenance of way rules.
