Summary: A R&D Welder must have competed internal certification requirements and consistently demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of several product lines. Must be willing and able to work wherever needed and is considered a “go-to” or “lead” person for less experienced associates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks at hand
- Performs MIG, TIG and other types of welds based on project needs
- Welds metal parts to build or assembles fixtures
- Positions parts in fixtures on benches or floor, or when necessary clamps parts together to align components before welding
- Preps metal, select proper fillers for jobs based on previous experience or project instructions, clean up welds as necessary
- Some fabrication of metal parts may be required for some projects
- Some assembly or rework on prototype machines may be required for some projects
- Collaboration with others in the layout, build and use of fixtures
- Assists others in learning how to use newly developed fixtures
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed or sometimes limited written or oral instructions
- Must be able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Training or certification in Welding or Welding Technology
- Five (5) years’ of welding experience
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand
- The employee is frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms
- The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision
