Description:
The Mill Helper/Secondary Welder shall assist in the functions of the mill operator with cleaning scarf, cutting pipe panels, changing tools and operating forklift to ensure continuous operation of the Mill in accordance with plant policies and procedures. The employee will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Working Conditions:
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

1. Qualifications:
1.1. A High School diploma or equivalent.

1.2. Experience in a Pipe Mill Operation required.

1.3. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.

1.4. Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and hand-held measurement devices.

1.5. Experience operating measuring devices such as: calipers, micrometers and ovality gauge.

1.6. Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and welding operation.

1.7. Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time and weekends when necessary.

2. Responsibilities:
2.1. Responsible for regularly cleaning material scarf at the welding area.

2.2. Responsible for assisting the mill operator to perform his/her duties and ensuring continuous mill operation.

2.3. Help the mill operator on setting up the equipment.

2.4. Check for cosmetic marking on the pipe.

2.5. Assist in obtaining panels for weld testing and changing scarfing tools when needed.

2.6. Responsible to clean and service all the equipment during scheduled maintenance and downtime.

2.7. This position will serve as back-up for the Mill Operator when necessary.

2.8. Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed to be processed.

2.9. Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.

2.10. Employee must follow the 5S implementation procedure.

3. Activities:
3.1. Inspecting equipment or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

3.2. Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components.

3.3. Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.

3.4. Check that all machinery is properly serviced before starting up and during shift

3.5. Assists in repair and replacement of equipment during maintenance shutdowns.

3.6. Communicate with crew to achieve a quality product.

3.7. Assist in changeovers and Mill stops.

3.8. This position may require operating Forklift and Overhead Crane.

3.9. Other duties as assigned.

4. Authority and Obligation:
4.1. This position has the authority to stop Secondary welder operation at any time that is deemed necessary for reasons of safety, quality, or priority
