Overview:
Purpose

Fuse’s pipe of various diameters by means of electric welding processes. Repairs damaged or broken metal objects. May be responsible for the layout and flame cutting of metals with a cutting torch. Oversees operation of tapping, plugging and freeze equipment during service work assignments to assure safe and proper use of equipment and satisfactory completion of job. Performs work assignments that conform with established capabilities.

Please note, this is a field position entailing approximately 90% of work time spent in the field, occasionally just for the day but usually for trips of 2 days to 2 weeks at a time.

Responsibilities:
Primary Duties

Proficient in B-Pressure welding and in GMAW, GTAW, FCAW and SMAW processes utilizing both electric and engine drive power supplies. Able to use cutting torches, burning machines, welding machines, arc welders, torches, burning machines, shape cutters, welding positioners, overhead cranes, and assorted hand tools, works on-site at pipeline or refinery to fuse pipe of various diameters. Welds will be ‘x-ray’ quality. To be qualified to weld in all positions.

Secures necessary jigs and fixtures, filler material to properly perform welding operations on a variety of metals and alloys. Keeps up to date on all equipment maintenance and operational procedures to ensure safe, proper maintenance and use of equipment and satisfactory completion of job.

Able to weld complete joint, including Root Pass, Hot Pass, Fill and Cap passes using Stringer Beads. De-seams, brushes, cleans and grinds as required. Performs minor repairs and adjustments of equipment. Works to close tolerances.

Assists customer in planning and coordinating use of line intervention equipment for safest and most efficient completion of projects; develops and maintains good relations with all customers. Acts as the site representative during tapping and welding operations.

Oversees the handling, assembly, operation and disassembly of TDW line intervention equipment in compliance with established quality assurance procedures during field operations.

Complies with TDW and customer safety standards and procedures, and stops any work utilizing TDW equipment when unsafe conditions exist that threaten equipment, property damage or bodily injury.

Upon completion of each job, prepares a report detailing equipment performance results and other essential data. Summarizes completed reports, time, and job tickets in a timely manner.

Performs maintenance and repairs of TDW equipment and/or other duties as required in shop, and other tasks as may be required from time to time by upper management.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience

Provincial Journeyman or Red Seal certification in Welding and valid B-Pressure certification combined with a min of 5 years of experience;

Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license with fewer than 3 demerits, and be able to travel extensively within Canada as required;

Two years ‘x-ray’ quality welding in the following welding processes: GMAW, GTAW, SMAW or FCAW.

Qualified for All Positions to ASME Section IX, API 1104 and API 1104 Appendix B.

Must be able to work in awkward working positions in field applications;

Must be able to climb, kneel, weld in vertical position, and lift a maximum of 50 pounds without assistance from lifting devices;

Medium to heavy lifting required, to be performed in conformance to TDW safety regulations; Working knowledge of overhead cranes and forklifts;

Ability to read blueprints and make fit-ups to blueprint tolerances.

Mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydraulics.
