Overview
R&P Technologies LLC, is currently seeking a Shipboard Installation Welder to work out of our San Diego, CA office. The Welder will apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials for production. Lays out and marks position pieces on parts or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. Fits by hand or positions pieces to be welded using jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and while using measuring instruments and / or various hand tools. May perform fitting, welding, and brazing supporting various shipboard installations or repairs on systems using all types of metals. Must possess knowledge and experience in the set up and operation of machines and tools to include: arc welder, mig welder, tig welder, plasma arc cutter, gas cutter, carbon arc cutter, band-saw, drill press to cut and weld parts to build/installation specifications. Uses hand tools such as grinders, needle guns, clamps, fixtures, calipers, scribes, combination squares etc. Basic knowledge of weld theory to include the following processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and / or Brazing. Some basic knowledge of ferrous / non- ferrous metals and the ability to read / interpret blueprints required. May be assigned the duties and responsibilities of other positions as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Must be able to read and interpret written policies, procedures and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using NAVSEA drawings / blueprints, instructions, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures.
- Must be able to layout, fabricate, position, align, and secure parts or assemblies prior to installation, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers to meet specified requirements. To include clamping, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinding, bolting of component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Ability to read and interpret welding symbols.
- Ability to pass annual vision requirements IAW applicable welding standards.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Welds foundations, brackets, studs, platforms, piping, and other items to support on-site installations and repairs.
- Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material. Examines work pieces for defects.
- Operates tools of the trade – Sawzalls, grinders, air tooling, and various other tools required to complete the welding process.
- Ensures proper safety and housekeeping are followed.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Qualifications:
- Production welder experience while in the Navy or working as a civilian welder supporting Navy ship repair or new construction.
- Completion of a formal course of vocational or Navy welding training and certification.
- Thorough knowledge of shipboard safety procedures and guidelines.
- Familiar with the requirements of NAVSEA Technical publications 248, 278 and 2035.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions.
- Experience with aluminum process, to include PCP Documentation.
- OSHA 10 required or willing to obtain.
- Fire Watch Certification required or willing to obtain
- Ability to obtain and maintain Navy DBIDS security credentials.
- Valid Security Clearance, or the ability to qualify and maintain.
- Must be able to lift/move/setup equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Able to work in a shipboard environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be PUNCTUAL AND RELIABLE.
- Must be able to work a schedule Monday – Friday 40hrs plus flexible to work weekends as needed.

Salary:
