Overview

POSITION BACKGROUND:

The shop foreman ensures that customer expectations for products are met or exceeded and that quality products are manufactured by shop personnel in a timely and cost-efficient manner. The shop foreman will also guide and train shop personnel and welding apprentices. This position requires safe work practices at all times and adherence to the ISO 9001 and CWB Quality System guidelines.

CORE DUTIES:

Daily Operations

· Supervise manufacturing shop and refractory shop personnel to ensure they are on schedule and completing work to the expected quality standard in a safe and timely fashion

· Responsible for quality control throughout the manufacturing process

· Mentor and train shop personnel and welding apprentices

· Assist shop personnel and offer advice and help when required

· Act as liaison between manufacturing shop manager and shop personnel

· Represent Ketek in a light that is commensurate with the values of management and the corporate mission statement.

· Responsible for all work completed within the manufacturing shop

· Must ensure that all raw materials (i.e. steel, aluminum, etc.) are assigned and stored within the designated area of the yard/shop

· Coordinate with the shop manager to assign shop personnel to specific tasks

· Provide timely feedback of shop operations to shop manager

· Work with shop manager, draftsman & manufacturing admin to improve shop efficiency

· Monitor and ensure quality control standards are met throughout the manufacturing process

· Carry out all duties of a welder

· Perform daily toolbox meetings

· Contribute to safety meetings held once per week

· Ensure ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements are met

· Ensure PSI documentation is completed by shop personnel for all tasks undertaken

· Fill required paperwork

· Ability to successfully complete safety training as required on an ongoing basis

· Observe all safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment

· Ensure that all of Ketek policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed

· Be considerate of the needs of our community and the environment

· Perform other related duties as require.

· Ensure all shop personal are following CWB WPS & WPDS’s

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Required

· Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken)

· High School Diploma

· Journeyman Welding Certificate

· Valid drivers license with driver’s abstract

· Minimum fifteen years fabrication and welding experience

· Ability to train and supervise effectively

· Able to demonstrate good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity

· Can easily read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications and drawings, and perform normal math calculations

· Familiar and comfortable with various saws, grinders and other hand tools

· Familiar and comfortable with manufacturing and welding machinery

· Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner

· Ability to deal with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner

· Ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent demanding deadlines

· Good negotiation skills

· Ability to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high level prioritization skills

· Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail

· Ability to work independently or as part of a team

· Effective verbal and listening communication skills

· Ability to effectively and efficiently solve problems and develop creative solutions

This position is defined as Safety Sensitive: Back and Audio tests are required prior to commencing employment. A Pulmonary Function test may also be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands

· Exposure to fabrication shop environment and associated risks, loud noises, arc flash from welding processes etc. Must take necessary precautions to protect oneself

· May at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose, and skin from irritation and infection

· May be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells

· Expected to do a considerable amount of lifting, carrying, climbing, kneeling and balancing; therefore, a certain amount of strength dexterity and alertness is required

· Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials

· May be required to work in high, precarious places, near moving parts, and/or electrical works

· May be required to work in confined spaces

· Moderate to heavy lifting (50 lbs +) may be required

· Pre-access drug and alcohol testing may be required

Work Environment

· Office environment (10%), yard and shop environment (90%)

· May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours

· May be required to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat
