The Location

CanWest Mechanical office and fabrication shop can be found in Fanny Bay, in the southern area of the Comox Valley, on Vancouver Island. Locally, there is a strong emphasis on arts, culture, food, sport, outdoor activities, the environment, and health and wellbeing. There is a thriving local business community, and vibrant array of events and year-round activity. Fanny Bay is easily accessible from the Inland Island Highway, which links Campbell River, the Comox Valley, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and Nanaimo. CanWest Mechanical’s location boasts views across the Strait of Georgia to the Coastal Mountains.

The Position

The Fabrication Shop Welder is a key member of the production team, reporting to the Shop Foreperson. The Fabrication Shop Welder will primarily be responsible for providing high quality production welding for the fabrication shop. In alignment with the long-term growth plans for CanWest, this position offers the right candidate a significant opportunity for future career growth, training, and development.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • High Quality Stainless Steel tig and mig welding.
  • High Quality Copper Nickle tig welding.
  • High Quality Carbon Steel pipe welding.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum A Pressure Welder Certificate of Qualification from Technical Safety BC with a current welding log book.
  • Structural welding experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task effectively.
  • Focused on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A reliable and honest individual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to read drawings would be considered an asset.
