Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is seeking a Welder/Shop Helper to support our welders and fabricators. This position offers high-visibility, growth opportunities, and exciting builds.

Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is a well-respected miscellaneous metals & structural steel fabricator who has been in business for over three decades. Quality & service are the core principles of our company and we prioritize excellent relationships with our clients. We are the only AISC certificated structural steel fabricator in Bryan, TX. We provide structural & misc steel, as well misc material sales (steel, aluminum, stainless steel), misc repairs, custom work, and job shop services. We service clients in the commercial retail/residential/office, educational, pharmaceutical, food service, manufacturing industries and more.

Job Summary: The Welder/Shop Helper will be responsible for ensuring parts are available, moving materials between workstations, grinding and cleaning welds, drilling and taping holes, and general assistance to welders. Must work individually and as a team as required to achieve production, quality, and quantity goals. Performing repetitive work is essential. Must maintain a high degree of quality and inspect work to ensure it meets quality standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Safety is the top priority while performing any part of your job.
  • Able to maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Knowledge of safe use and handling of power tools.
  • Able to perform grinding, sanding, painting, and any other mechanical duties assigned by the shop or structural foreman.
  • Lift and load work materials into positions as directed using hoists, cranes, or forklift.
  • Help provide welders with support, tools and supplies needed to complete work.
  • Assist welders in loading or moving heavy work pieces during work operations.
  • Able to follow directions of welders to assist in manufacturing process.
  • Clean workpieces to remove impurities, such as slag, rust, and grease as necessary with grinder or scraper.
  • Prep pieces for paint.
  • Able to read and understand production drawings to help manufacture products.
  • Ability to use time and equipment efficiently to complete projects on time.
  • Driving to pick up parts/deliver as well as any other assigned tasks Painting – must be able to haul 27’ + trailer.
  • Other general shop duties required by the shop or structural foreman.
  • Inspect all equipment daily to check for leaky cylinders, hoses, or connections.
  • Palletizing, shrink wrapping, & banding product/materials.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

***MUST Have ability to read tape measure and general use of power tools such as drill press, grinder, saw, sanders and general hand tools. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions a must! ***

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to focus on small details.
  • Knowledge of safe use and handling of power tools.
  • You will also be using a shear, iron worker, press brake, saw, lathe mill and hand tools for fabrication.
  • Able to follow directions and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Welding experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Customer focused attitude.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and perform repetitive motion for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs of product and material.
  • Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards – Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities.
  • Contribute to team effort by communicating and working well with others, as well as accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Sweeping & cleaning production areas.
  • Follow all company rules and policies.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity with regards to professional behavior and safety.

  • Required
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift driving experience a plus.
  • 6 months of working experience.
  • Able to understand the English language.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing in compliance with safety protocols.
