Welder/Pipe Fitter

HTI is currently looking for a Welder/Pipe Fitter to fill an opening with Siemens in Charlotte. The location is off Westinghouse. Interested candidates should have prior welding/pipe fitting and manufacturing experience and will need to pass a background check and drug screening.

Monday – Thursday 5:30am to 4:00pm

Responsibilities of Welder/Pipe Fitter

  • Determine assembly procedures and parts requirements; layout, fit, tack, weld, align and assemble gas and steam turbine parts such as: diaphragms, blade rings, vanes, nozzle blocks, transitions, etc.; check passes for soundness including previously laid weld.
  • Determine dimensions for final machining of diaphragms and seals to maintain drawing requirements.
  • Tack and weld vanes, seals and gussets to shrouds, weld seals to diaphragms, weld tie bars to integral vane assemblies, remove and replace anti-rotation pins, etc.
  • Grind and/or file splits on shrouds to dimensions specified. Assemble, set and align diaphragms/seals.
  • Assemble cylinder, check clearances, line up with dowels.
  • Layout splits for steam diaphragms by performing operations such as: clamp to block, adjust screw support to locate centre, layout to one half base diameter for machining. Scrape/file/hone to bed splits.
  • Position specified number of nozzle blocks into cords dimension. Grind and/or file each one symmetrical so as to fit into specified cord dimension.
  • Establish material to be removed from inner and outer shroud; layout for milling and/or grinding.
  • Perform Level 1 NDE; continue work or assure completeness to be verified by QA, as appropriate.
  • Interpret NCN and NDE reports for repair requirements; perform repairs as required by performing operations such as: cut seal using cutting wheel, remove blade, reposition blade for welding using parallel gauge, dress vanes using hand or power file to specified dimensions; Perform repair weld build up to restore dimensions and A-TIG repairs.
  • Maintain progress records and log books; Completes detailed log sheet, QC documents, and other information as required by data collection.
  • Perform or assist in developing qualified weld procedures to improve performance.
  • Complete and sign in-process verification charts.
  • Provide technical guidance to other welders, as required; responsible for shift turnover.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; adapts to various situations and adjusts to shifting priorities.

Requirements of Welder/Pipe Fitter

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 5 years welding experience preferred
  • Able to lift 50 lbs repetitively
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Stable work history
