Overview

Durose Manufacturing Ltd, A leader and progressive manufacturer of fabricated Steel products, is seeking a Day Shift Steel Fabrication Supervisor for their facility in Guelph.

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Steel Fab Supervisor will be responsible to oversee various Fabrication operations of the plant via a hands-on approach and to ensure all production requirements are met according to our customers’ needs. This position will oversee a group of Employees in Steel Fabrication.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage, coordinate, and supervise Steel Fabrication activities
  • Knowledge in Material and process flow and shop layout for efficiency
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and management support to employees on the shop floor.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining management systems necessary to control and reduce risks of accidents
  • Ensure quality is achieved for ISO standards –
  • Conduct employee performance reviews annually and provide regular feedback to employees and reinforce accountability and objectives while maintaining morale and motivation
  • Discipline employees when performance issues arise –
  • Maintain and track performance based on measurement methods and ensure that shipments are met
  • Work with material and shipping and receiving departments to improve shop floor coordination during peak and low volume periods
  • Participate in all management and production meetings
  • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with all Health & Safety regulations
  • Analyze and develop written procedures and work instructions to continuously improve all systems under this function.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Perform any additional duties per manager’s direction

Required Experience & Qualifications:

– Community college education and/or related industry/manufacturing/technical experience

– A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role in a steel fabrication setting

– High attention to detail and very accurate with the ability to read customer supplied Engineered Drawings
– Fitting and welding knowledge in OEM and Steel Fab including an excellent understanding of the best methods and a good handle on how long tasks should take

– Excellent knowledge of Processing and Machining

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

– Customer focused with the ability to meet deadlines

– Reliable and career oriented

– Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated

– A working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Industrial Regulations and the Employment Standards Act

– Proven track record in effective team building and continuous improvement initiatives
