The Structural Welder role is to

The Structural Welder is responsible for welding together structural Build Up parts or steel components previous fitted. The Welder will utilize Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process equipment while following shop details specifications.

Whirlwind’s goal is to provide Metal Buildings for families, congregations and businesses, in the most efficient manner, with a high quality level while maintaining a safe work environment. The role of the Welder is crucial to the overall manufacturing process of our products.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you are responsible for:
Reads and interprets shop details to determine specific welding requirements.

Adjust the welding unit to obtain amperage and voltage as specified by Whirlwind Standard.

Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.

Welds in flat and horizontal position.

Visual examines weld for bead size and other specifications.

Identifies the finished part using his/her Qualified Welder’s Identification number.

Back gouge to sound metal all flanges and connections plates splices to insure a Complete Joint Penetration Weld to pass the in-house Ultrasonic test.

Welds to pass a visual Inspection test in accordance AWS D1.1 welding code.

Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following qualifications:

Ability to accurately read and interpret welding detail drawings.

Must be able to apply an acceptable weld to pass visual test in accordance to AWSD1.1

Must be able to apply an acceptable Complete Joint Penetration weld to pass Ultrasonic test in accordance to AWSD1.1

Must pass a 2G butt weld test in 1” steel coupon.
