Structural Welder

You MUST have the following proper equipment to complete your test: Chipping Hammer, Gloves, 4″ Grinder, Hood, Safety Glasses, Steel-toed Boots, Welding Stinger (Whip – your stinger/whip should have a 5/8″ quick connect end), Wire Brush and Wire Pliers
- Your root pass must be even and consistent with no porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, or lack of penetration

- MINIMUM of three (3) years of SHIPYARD WELDING experience – REQUIRED
Responsibilities
- You will be required to complete an open-root weld test on a 3/8″ plate with a 1/8″ gap for both SMAW (1/8″ 7018 rods) and FCAW (Flux-Core) processes
- You will proceed by tacking the backing tabs onto each end of your plates
- Stop and notify the test administrator so that your root pass can be inspected
- Once your root pass is complete and your coupon has been checked by the test administrator, you may continue to put in your filler pass to flush your weld out making sure you leave a 1/16″ tolerance at the bevel edge of the test plate for the cap
- You are to remove each process, horizontal, vertical, and overhead, and they are to be placed in the same position in the gouging booth which will be shown to you
- You will be instructed on the requirements of the process and shown “acceptable and non-acceptable” test coupons
- Prior to capping, make sure your weldment is flushed
- Work in confined spaces, in the elements, aboard shipyard vessels, in the shop, and travel outside the facilities to other local ports in the area via company truck

Pipe Welder

Qualifications
- Successfully pass a 6GR Carbon Steel Pipe Welding test using SMAW
- Cooperative spirit – team player
- MINIMUM Two (2) years of pipe welding experience – REQUIRED
- Must have own tools – NO Battery operated grinders; the employer does not provide tools
Responsibilities
- Take two (2) coupons
- Grind and clean
- Instructor will have you set the gap at 1/8″
- Place the pipe in a 6GR position
- Weld root with 1/8″ – 6010
- Allow the instructor to examine the root pass
- 1/8 ” – 7018 on the hot pass
- Weld root with 3/32″ – 316L
- 1/8″ – 316L on the hot pass
- At times will work closely with pipefitters to successfully complete the job
- Work in confined spaces, in the elements, aboard shipyard vessels, in the shop, and travel outside the facilities to other local ports in the area via company truck
Pay rate $25 and $100 perdiem
