Full Job Description

Job Title: Sub Arc Operator/Welder

Location: Youngsville, LA

Schedule: 5 & 2

The Sub Arc Operator is responsible for setting up and operating ‘arc’ welding machines. This machine welds together parts of fabricated metal products. Typical duties and responsibilities include setting-up, aligning and adjusting the arc welding machine.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Understand product flow and timing of product placement
  • Work under a Shop Supervisor and with shop team members using applied practices
  • Read and interpret welding process specifications
  • Inspect material to be welded or worked on and perform final inspection on finished welds
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment
  • Grind and gouge metal to prepare for welding
  • Preheat surfaces, using hand torch or heating furnaces
  • Adjust machine set up according to vary size, location, and penetration of bead
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as shielded metal arc (SMAW), flux-core arc (FCAW)
  • Use the machine to weld materials together, as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding procedures, and operating charts in flat and horizontal positions
  • Visually examine welds for adherence to specifications
  • Use rigging techniques with overhead bridge cranes and fitting steel using key plates, bull pins, keys, shims, lifting lugs, nuts, u bars, etc.
  • Understand blueprints, sketches, and specifications
  • Use basic math skills to calculate dimensions and weights

Required Qualifications:

  • MINIMUM 2 years Sub Arc Operator machine experience strongly preferred
  • Previously qualified as a Sub Arc Operator or willing to learn with prior welding experience
  • Weldments will be in conformation to ASME
