Supervisor, Field Welding
Acheson, AB
Shift – 7×7 – 12 hour days
Reporting to the General Foreman, Welding, the Welding Field Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the Welding facilities. Position oversees field welding and occasionally shop projects as required, providing maintenance and repair of mining equipment. Position assigns work and allocates tradespeople time to best utilize available manpower. Responsibilities include assisting tradespeople in repair procedures and techniques when problems are encountered. Supervises a 12 hour shift of approximately 20 tradespeople including apprentices and labourers.
Responsibilities & Activities:
Oversees welding shop and/or field operations.
Ensures that operational requirements are met by supervising, coordinating and scheduling the activities of tradespeople who repair and maintain mining equipment.
Assures a quality product by conducting in-process inspections and evaluating the finished product.
Takes corrective action for improvement by providing counselling and utilizing the disciplining process when standards are not met.
Coaches and mentors employees.
Prepares and processes warranty claim repair orders.
Coordinates work through other trades and shops such as mechanics and warranty claims.
Accepts shipments and ships product by verifying shipments; determines method of shipment.
Supervisory responsibilities.
Ensures payroll and human resources policies and procedures are met and enforced.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by developing and enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations
Ensures all tradespeople are exercising safe procedures and that trade practices and regulations are followed.
Tracks and arranges C.W.B. training, OHS required training, and site specific orientations.
Customer service.
Serves customers by providing service information and by resolving service problems.
Resolves service problems by asking questions and clarifying the customer’s concerns; determining the cause of the problem; explaining the best solution; making the correction or adjustment; and following up to ensure resolution.
Ensure detailed documentation is completed for each project.
Prepare project reports for management and customer review as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Contributes to the Branch by accomplishing other related results and duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Position requires a thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of mining equipment.
Requires journey level certification in the welding trade.
Minimum five years experience as a qualified welder is required.
Ability to oversee and coordinate a large shop operation; must have ability to act as “go-between”, between workers and management and ability to make decisions.
Must be an organized individual, self motivated and a self starter.
Also requires knowledge of C.W.B., OH&S acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
