Overview

Marine fabricators make aluminum, stainless steel, fabricated metal and other products used to build boats and other marine vessels. They cut, shape, join and repair the metal components that make up the hulls, frames and other structures of boats. These structures may include fuel tanks, boarding ladders and platforms, rails, canopy bows and a range of smaller or specially customized fittings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Marine fabricators should be capable of welding, fabricating, modifying, and installing marine hardware and ornamental features

Must be a versatile fabricator capable of working with a variety of metals

TIG and MIG knowledge and capabilities as well as basic fabrication skills

Must possess own tools

Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines

Other duties as assigned by Manager

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.

Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.

Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.

Technical and Physical Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Technical school training preferred

TIG and MIG capabilities as well as basic fabrication skills required

Ability to ascend and descend a ladder

Must carry own tools

Ability to work in confined spaces

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Basic boat handling skills preferred
