The Technologist, Fabrication and Welding provides assistance to faculty by overseeing the use of facilities including demonstrating skills to students and completing remedial instructions for those students who require further assistance in mastering the practical skills. The incumbent will also be responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance of a wide variety of fabrication machines including press brake, plate rolls, plate shear, and iron worker and will provide technical support in matters of a complex nature.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a work arrangement of being on-site 5 days per week.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates practical skills and the safe use of welding and fabrication equipment
Provides remedial instruction to those students requiring further assistance in mastering required practical skills
Provides guidance to students toward the successful completion of their lab assignments and projects
Delivers feedback toward the evaluation of student performance in the lab in conjunction with faculty assignment/project requirements
Maintains lab facilities and fabrication and welding equipment including repairs and preventative maintenance to equipment or sub-contracting the repairs of equipment
Evaluates and maintains inventory management system of equipment, equipment manuals and supplies, prepares purchase requisitions for lab supplies and machine parts
Collaborates with Health and Safety department by providing documentation and reports, updating lab equipment binders, documenting inventory of supplies and equipment, maintenance repair, shipping, and assessment of hazardous goods
Participates in other projects/duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Certificate of Qualification as a 437A Metal Fabricator/Fitter or 456A Welder or three year diploma in Welding Engineering Technology or a related discipline
Minimum five years of relevant industrial fabrication and welding experience as a certified Journeyperson Metal Fabricator/Fitter and/or Welder required
Must be flexible and organized
