TIG/MIG PIPE WELDER

Job Duties:

As a Pipe welder you will be assembling and welding our designs from shop drawings using prefabricated components on steel. We use mostly MIG and TIG for more demanding applications or special materials. You will need to have a good understanding of shop drawings and Knowledge of working with steel and pipe welding, and custom fabrication. You will need to be able to measure and cut material to meet specifications prior to welding, ability to fit and assemble custom components, ability to troubleshoot and be innovative in solving problems, must be an organized individual, self-motivated and a self-starter. Also requires knowledge of OH&S acts and regulations.

Qualified candidate should be able to welds flat, cylindrical, or irregular parts that may be clamped, tack-welded, or otherwise positioned. Turns cranks or pushes buttons to align welding head over weld joint to weld linear joints or adjust length of radial arm to position over weld joint when welding radial joints.

Turns welding head to set specified angle. Turns knobs to set current, voltage, and slope, and synchronize feed of wire and flux with speed of welding action. Sets limit switch which automatically stops machine at end of weld. Starts machine and observes meters and gauges or observes welding action for compliance with procedures.

Visually examines welds for adherence to specifications. Grinds welded surfaces for penetrant test. Adjusts machine setup to vary size, location, and penetration of bead. Installs track template to weld irregularly shaped seams. Makes trial run before welding and records setup and operating data. Layouts, fits, and tacks workpieces together. Rewelds defective joints with hand-welding equipment.

This category will also be required to support other departments as requested. Will also be required to support and promote the EHS Program with a positive attitude and concern for the health and safety of each employee and protection of the environment.

Competencies:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints / drawings.
  • Must have experience with fitting and pipe welding.
  • Candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision.

· Some heavy lifting may be necessary. Must be able up to lift 50 lbs.

· Must have an eye for detail and be quality oriented.

· Have strong sense or responsibility and willingness to learn new concepts.

· Able to operate with high sense of diligence and priority for safety.

· Must have strong English communication skills and able to delegate competing priorities in production.

· Must have strong organizational skills and decision-making ability.

· Computer literate. Proficient in MS Word and Excel.

· Must maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $20.00-$27.00 per hour
