JOB INFORMATION
This posting is for current and upcoming opportunities which may involve working various shifts/off days and various work reporting locations, which may vary as directed by work assignments.
Trainees will be required to work various shifts as part of the 3-year training period to allow exposure to various aspects of the work, and afford the opportunity to work with accomplished welders.
Upon successful completion of the appropriate training and work experience period, the candidate will be re-classified as a Track Welder (Wage Group 8).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Receive training and instruction for varied and moderately complex electric welding and acetylene cutting and the operations of various grinding equipment
Removing and replacing pavement around rail as required
Rebuilding worn rail heads, guard rail on curves, special trackwork, frogs, and switch points, etc.
Performing thermite welding of rail ends, monitoring of electric flash butt welding activities, cald welding and 500 MCM bonding
Welding ring bonds, equaliser bonds and cross bonds to tangent or special trackwork joints
Using various bonding processes
Performing acetylene cutting work as required
Performing general emergency work such as freeing frozen track, switches and mechanisms, and making temporary repairs to defective rail joints, etc.
Operating a truck in order to transport tools, materials and personnel to work sites
Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Training normally obtained through completion of Grade 12 education, technical programs, or the equivalent, as defined by the TTC’s Operations Training Centre’s guidelines for the assessment of Grade 12 technical program
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and published operating/safety rules and regulations
Must have a valid class “G” province of Ontario driver’s licence, or better, and pass the written and practical tests required for a class “DZ” driver’s licence
Successful completion of the TTC’s Track Maintainer training program
The successful candidate will be classified as a Track Welder Trainee for a period of up to 3 years, during which time the applicable training will be provided
Must be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status
The successful candidate will be locked into the Track Welder Trainee position for a period of 3 years and will not be entitled to bid for job vacancies or participate in Master Sign-ups or Bumps until the completion of the 3-year training period
Upon successful completion of the classroom and the on-the-job training has been obtained, the candidate will be classified as a Track Welder in wage group 8 and must remain in the classification for a period of 18 months with the ability to bid to higher classifications during this period, as per the Maintenance Seniority Regulations
