Overview
This is skilled shop and field work at the journeyman level performing fabrication and welding duties.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for welding, fitting, forming, cutting and fabrication tasks.
Repair and maintenance of City facilities, equipment and machinery.
Welding and fabrication work associated with the installation and/or maintenance of various aspects of engineering/public works and other City infrastructure.
Ordering shop supplies and materials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions related to the work performed and ability to identify, mitigate and ensure safety aspects are properly addressed and the work is perform in a safe manner.
Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in fabricating and welding.
Skilled in welding, fitting, forming, forging, brazing, heating, cutting and fabricating.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written assignments, instructions and work from blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
Ability to weld cast iron and steel pressure water pipes and other City infrastructure materials.
Ability to perform independently with minimal supervision and with considerable independence in judgement, action and initiative on all aspects of the job.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City staff, contractors and members of the general public.
Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain accurate paper based and/or digital records, reports, estimates and perform related tasks.
Ability to successfully clear a Police Information Check.
Qualifications and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a completed apprenticeship in the welding trade program and up to five years related journeyman experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
BC Trades Certification of Qualification as a certified Level “A” welder is required.
A minimum of five years fabrication related experience is preferred.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
Working Conditions:
Job is physical in nature, requiring routine light and heavy physical effort, manual dexterity and extended periods of mental concentration.
Exposure to dust, dirt, toxic chemicals and fumes.

Salary Range: $43.51 per hour
Hours of Work: Monday – Friday (Compressed Work Week)
Standard Shift: 7:00 am – 4:30 pm
Possibility of a shift change for coverage purposes to 3:30 pm – 1:00 am (with adequate notice)
