Dimensions

This position does not have any direct reports. They will be working at the Dome Mine Site in the Plant Maintenance Department.

Purpose

Newmont Porcupine is looking for a skilled welder to join our team at the Dome mine site. The successful applicant must be competent in using all welding, burning and shop fabrication equipment and be familiar with welding procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the field and fabrication shop environments.

Safety Expectations

Responsible for his/her health and safety

Correct and report unsafe practices and conditions

Maintain a safe and healthful work place

Make suggestions to improve any aspect of safety

Complete field level risk assessments and work place inspections

Follow all Newmont Porcupine Gold Mines safety policies and procedures

Essential Duties

Read and fabricate from engineered prints while using shop equipment safely and efficiently.

Work independently in a safe and productive manner.

Supply welding requirements to the maintenance shops and the open pit as required.

Determine the appropriate welding equipment or methods to be used based on task requirements.

Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.

Operate fabrication shop equipment.

Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures for potential deficiencies.

Fabrication and repair of chutes and wear liners.

Work in confined areas as required.

Align components.

Maintain equipment and work areas in a condition that does not compromise safety

Wear proper PPE including half mask respirator as required.

Follow all Newmont Porcupine Gold Mine safety policies and procedures

Training & Experience

A minimum of 72 months of experience working on mining related equipment within a specific trade line or has fulfilled the time and training obligation of the apprenticeship program but has not successfully completed the trade’s exam through the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities

A minimum of 5 years of welding on heavy equipment and structural repairs

Must be able to organize work and self-motivate.

Must be willing to work with others.

Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use personal protective equipment (face-shield, gloves, respirator)

Working Conditions

This position is located at Dome site, part of Newmont’s Porcupine Mine Site near Timmins, ON.

In this role, you will work a 5x5x4 schedule. As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require you to relocate.
