POSITION OVERVIEW:
ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Torch Cutter to be based out of our Surrey B.C. location. The job holder is responsible for cutting over-sized pieces of scrap metal to marketable sized pieces using oxy/propane fueled cutting torches. Typically, these pieces are too thick or too large to be processed effectively with mobile or stationary shears.
The ideal candidate will have experience using a plasma/oxy torch; however we are willing to train the right person for this position. Most of all a good work ethic and a willingness to learn are the keys to success in this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safely layout scrap in operating area.
- Sets up and maintains oxy acetylene/ propane torches.
- Cuts large or too thick pieces of metal into customer specifications.
- Ensures fire prevention and follows safety guidelines.
- Communicates with fellow workers in a professional manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous burner and/or labourer experience.
- Willingness to work in an outdoor environment (rain or shine).
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
- Experience running a bobcat, forklift and/or a torch/plasma cutter in a related industry is considered an asset.
- Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
