Job Purpose

The Gas Pipeline Welder is an integral position in the process of construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of natural gas distribution infrastructure. This position performs various welding tasks associated with new construction, repair and maintenance of existing gas utility lines and related systems/equipment such as welding pipe casings, welding vault lids and pipe fittings, welding metal parts together, welding hot gas mains, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes, fabricating special parts and apparatus, etc.

Essential Functions

Operate jobsite equipment safely.

Perform daily preventive maintenance and upkeep of company vehicles and equipment.

Fabricate and install steel natural gas main lines and services.

Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines.

Manage and maintain welding equipment, supplies, and material.

Repair, restore, and install gas pressure regulators and devices.

Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, and fittings.

Maintain all industry required Operator Qualifications.

Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, or equivalent.

1 year of related welding experience.

Competent in welding and cutting techniques.

Certified by the customer to weld.

Ability to use welding rods, welding machine, and grinder.

Precise hand-eye coordination.

Must have adequate visual spatial acuity

Identify and distinguish colors.

See and read gauges.

Evaluate jobsite and perform visual inspection of welds.

Ability to read prints, spot cables, and locate utilities.

Preferred Qualifications

3 or more of experience.

Class A welding certification for Dominion Energy

OQ operator qualified.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
