Your Opportunity
The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one’s field, instructional and professional duties, professional development and service.

Functions and Duties
Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:

  • Instructional (teaching assignments)
  • Course and program preparation and revision
  • Student contact
  • Student advising
  • Evaluation and marking of student work
  • Other functions related to instruction

Professional duties may include any or all of the following:

  • Curriculum development
  • Student registration
  • Pre-registration duties

Service may include any or all of the following:

  • School visitations
  • Participation on OC committees
  • Attendance at articulation meetings
  • Representing OC at other functions
  • Administrative and other duties.

Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Education and Experience
1. Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.

2. An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.

3. An Instructor’s Diploma or valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

4. Six to ten years recent relevant experience.

Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college. Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline. The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.

Schedule
Given on-call nature of position, schedule and frequency of instruction may vary.

Typical instructional day is 7.5 hours long. Typical instructional week is four days and would not exceed 30 hours.

Location of instruction may also vary depending on program.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary placement is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
