JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

Takes a leadership role in training and assisting other team members; willing to take initiative to suggest improvement and report issues. Routinely performs assembly procedures on u-joint product. Assists in welding u-joint shafts and assembly components. Balance u-joint shafts and applies paint to finished components. Must be capable of reading assembly prints. Equipment used: Automatic band saw, torches, hydraulic/manual presses, MIG/TIG/SMAW welders, common hand tools, painting equipment (pneumatic sprayer), shaft balancing equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assemble u-joint components to complete u-joint shaft assemblies.

Builds bearing kits and cross kits among other components for u-joint assemblies.

Press fit or heat fit end sections of U-joint.

Saw pipe for u-joint center sections.

Prepare pipe ends on lathe for u-joint ends to facilitate assembly/weld

Disassemble/reassemble existing u-joint components.

Repair nonconforming u-joint components (may require extensive welding).

Spot weld certain components of u-joint ends.

Weld interior and exterior of product on various metals using multiple welding machines (SMAW, MIG, TIG, automatic welders)

Balance completed u-joint shafts on multiple balancing machines.

Apply paint to completed u-joint assemblies.

May be required to complete TIG welding certification for specific products.

In-process inspections using various inspection gauges and tools

Organize paperwork for work orders

Use jigs and fixtures as required

Adhere to all safety requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent, Associates in Mechanical and Industrial Technology preferred. Can replace experience with education. Previous shop experience preferred.
