Position overview
Our never-before-seen welding cobots require customization and R&D. We are looking for a Welding Apprentice to join our growing team and support the development of our cobots.
As a Welding Apprentice, you will provide your welding abilities in theory and knowledge to help us further our welding robot design. You will be fabricating welding and building parts, fitting pipes when necessary, welding using the SWR for internal R&D purposes, helping with the assembly of SWRs during production, installing SWRs at customer sites and providing technical customer support. Other duties will include general shop upkeep and housekeeping as well as material handling.
The ideal candidate will join the Novarc team with a strong technical foundation and a go-getter attitude.
Health and Safety:
- Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company rules, policies and procedures
- Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by the Company
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare pipe spools and fit up as required
- General Housekeeping and maintenance in the shop environment
- Use of basic shop and power tools (drills, bandsaw, measuring instruments etc)
- Completing projects and testing per development plans and assigned by welding team
- Assisting the engineering and welding development teams in testing and commissioning product features
- Field Installation of equipment
- Performing other duties as assigned by the operations team
Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
- 1-2 years or more welding industry experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered based on education qualifications
- Welding āCā level certificate
- You will have a strong understanding of welding techniques, especially MIG welding
- You will possess working knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing of welded metal parts
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Understanding of welding and weld processes
- Ability to detect defects visual defects in fillet and groove welds
- Ability to accurately conduct measurements (good math skills)
- Ability to stand, bend and walk for extended periods
- Ability to safely lift and handle 50lbs at a time
- Ability to communicate fluently and effectively in English
- Detailed organizer and excellent time management skills
- Flexibility with shifts (dependent on workflow and project requirements)
- Valid BC drivers license with reliable means for transportation
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
- Pipe Welding experience with MIG
Schedule:
- Core hours: Monday to Friday, starting between 0700 and 0730
- Flexibility to work outside of regular hours and on weekends if and when needed to support remote installs in North America or outside North America in other time zones
