Position Overview

Aecon Nuclear provides a full spectrum of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services, in addition to maintenance and manufacturing services tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the nuclear power industry. Reporting to the Director of Continuous Improvement, The Welding Lead role will take overall ownership of the welding program supporting our work with key nuclear clients.

Key Responsibilities

Perform the duties of Project Manager for weld-related applications at Aecon’s fabrication facilities and field project sites

Serve as the overall owner for Aecon Nuclear’s welding program, including any required Quality program based and operations/execution procedures

Manage welding staff, including direct management of staff at the COE, and management of deployment of resources to fabrication and field sites for support

Carry out direct mentorship/oversight of all welding leadership/management/supervision personnel

Responsible for welding program development, including development of COE service suite

Directly lead, or provide consultation as required on project-based weld applications, including input on issue resolution, procedure/process development, equipment and resource requirement definition and personnel development

Lead or support (in the case of existing/project-based programs) development (including direct preparation/development of specific elements) of welding personnel training program

Lead or support the development of weld program innovations (tooling design, inspection methods, process optimization)

Support/participate in weld tool upgrades and refurbishment between units at BP-FCFR and OPG-FCFR

Provide technical review/input of/to, weld program deliverables

Other duties as deemed necessary, as directed by reporting manager(s)

Required Knowledge and Experience

15+ years experience in application of welding

Possesses a well-rounded Project Management skillset, including ~10 years experience managing projects, including accountability for staff, safety, quality, cost, schedule

Intimate knowledge of welding processes, material/metallurgy sciences

Applied experience related to welding on nuclear class systems including piping, pressure vessels, support structures

Applied knowledge/experience with orbital machine welding

Experience in leading, developing/training welding personnel, including Welding Supervisors, Welding Operators, supporting Mechanics, welding SMEs, etc

Knowledge/background in PHT/feeder welding
