Overview
The role of a Weld Shop Assistant is to assist with the fabrication of our products by performing basic yet important tasks that are essential in keeping production moving in the steel fabrication shop. Duties include operating basic hand tools and assisting machine operators, fitters/welders, shippers/receivers, etc. Housekeeping, grinding, and insulating are key components of this physically demanding job.
Requirements:
Position: Full time
Hours: Monday – Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Area: Shop Floor
Reports to: Plant Manager/Supervisor
Desire and ambition to start a career in welding is considered an asset.
Responsibilities:
Clean up debris, materials, and equipment around the worksite (e.g. washrooms, lunchroom, and yard when required, including sweeping floors, etc.)
Remove garbage
Move material to racks and Stores
Insulate and line units when required
Clean/prep material (e.g. grinding, acid washing)
Paint
Assist others as necessary
Be proactive and accountable for deadlines and job requirements
Follow all company and legislation policies and procedures
Occasional use of overhead cranes, forklift trucks and equipment (when trained)
Lift and carry heavy objects including materials, supplies, and equipment
Perform work safely and follow policies and procedures
Perform any other tasks that he/she or the Manager feels is required to better the company
May be required to pass a weld test
This role involves primarily work in the shop. The person in this role can spend time outdoors, as steel and other materials and equipment are stored in the yard. The employee can be exposed to all weather conditions. The work is sometimes in tight spaces and requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling and ladder climbing.
