JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision can set up and operates gas and electric welding equipment used in the manufacturing of metal cabinets. Responsible for meeting safety, quality and productivity expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under supervision, sets up and operates different types of equipment used to weld metal cabinets and other related products.

Plans details of working procedure, tools, and material requirements.

Welds sheet metal using different welding positions (flat, overhead, vertical, etc.).

Cleans and prepares surfaces (including sanding) to be welded.

Uses cutting torch equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.

Builds up worn or defective surfaces.

Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.

Works from blueprint, engineering specifications and production schedules.

Upon completion of welding operations, assists other areas as needed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Continuously maintains a clean work area. Disposes of trash and production scrap. Assists in cleaning common areas.

Performs other related duties, as assigned by management.

Technical Competencies:
High school or equivalent education preferred.

Production welding with sheet metal experience preferred.

Must demonstrate the capability of welding sheet metal products by passing welding test.

Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints and engineering specifications. Basic reading, writing and numerical ability.

Proficient in using measuring devices as required for product inspection.

Available and willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as production demands dictates.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be knowledgeable of safe operating rules and procedures and demonstrate competence though written and practical application.

Must wear all required personal protective equipment, especially eye protection due to the considerable glare emitted from work.

Work involves:
Varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable.

Lift up to 40 lbs.

Occasional pushing/pulling of carts with loaded material

Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when lifting, carrying, and manipulating lengthy materials (e.g. 10’)

Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, and working on structures of varying height and length.

Frequent elbow/wrist movement while grasping parts and finished assembly.

Constant standing and walking

Work area must be carefully enclosed to prevent injury to others from sparks and flying chips.
