Overview

Primary Function

Operates machining equipment that cut, shape, drill, bore, or thread, metal parts according to specifications by performing the following duties. Drills and taps iron castings through the operation of drilling machinery such as the HMC, G&L Ram 630, and Fadals

Responsibilities

Responsible for the set-up and operation of FADAL drills and automatic machining centers.

Follows all quality procedures including performing quality inspection on the first piece setup and periodic checks for acceptable dimensions of holes and threads using thread or “go no-go” gauges.

Makes slight machine adjustments to complete high quality parts from the machine using CNC logic.

Taps drilled holes to the proper specifications indicated on the drawings.

Loads and unloads iron castings onto machine fixtures. This includes cleaning excess debris from the drilled castings.

Transports castings to assembly areas once completed.

Performs proper preventive maintenance, cleaning and care of the equipment.

Properly cares and cleans all safety equipment including glasses, gloves, face shields, etc.

Follows all safety guidelines and policies to create a safe working environment.

Reports of production to the lead person and documents quantities on report logs in a timely manner.

Responsible for maintaining documentation on all production logs and measures.

Responsible for maintaining the tool storage and Kanban system.

Responsible for controlling inventory and cycle counts in the department.

Assists with other department functions including copper cutting and defining, and HEX assembly.

Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to speak with other employees of organization.

Experience and knowledge of Machining and/or the department’s operations and ability to assist with those functions.

Safety record, promotes a safe and organized work area.

Good communication skills via written and oral.

Mechanical ability. Use of simple math and measuring tools.

Ability to make logical decisions as to quality, sequence of operations, and setup. Good problem solving ability.

Ability to read work orders, schedules, code sheets, drawings, and translate into production environment.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Years of Experience

Minimum of 1 year related work experience

Physical Requirements

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds overhead and maneuver various parts weighting up to 50 lbs.

Loud noises and limited exposure to dust and fumes.

Use of wrenching, impacting, and/or vibrating tools (manual and automatic) is required occasionally for extended periods of time.
