JOB

Work assignments are performed under general supervision in Building Maintenance. Lays out, cuts and fits materials for welding. Selects proper welding heat and selects the proper type and size of electrodes for correct penetration and strength. Does cutting and welding on such items of machinery and equipment as truck and automobile bodies, refuse containers, pump and engine parts, trailer parts, heavy construction equipment and similar machinery and apparatus. Welds flat, vertical and horizontal surfaces. Brazes, solders and coats non-ferrous metals. Fabricates steel and aluminum tool boxes, steel and aluminum doors, holding tanks, truck beds, trailers, etc. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent. At least ten years welding experience. Obtain 3-G Certificate within one year. Considerable knowledge of the practices, materials, methods and tools of the welding and fabrication trade. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, to read simple sketches and diagrams and to work from broken parts. Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment in the welding trade. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Physical abilities include frequent, moderate lifting up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs., bending, climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping. Specific environment may be moderate to loud. Exposure to outside adverse weather conditions.
