Welder – 2nd Year Apprentice

SMS Equipment is growing!! We are looking for Welders – 2nd Year Apprentices who enjoy finding solutions, make safety a priority and are excited about working with the largest, most advanced earthmoving equipment. You will be at the forefront helping to keep those machines, and the industry they service, moving!

The shift rotation for this position is 5×2.

At SMS Equipment, our Welder – 2nd Year Apprentice will provide assistance to Journeyperson Welders to repair and maintain mining equipment and components.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist Journeyperson Welders with component rebuild of mobile mining fleet including off-road haul trucks, shovels, drills and other mining equipment.

Assist with the fabrication and equipment repair of haul truck boxes and loaders, shovel and dragline buckets.

Conduct supervised air-arc gouging, grinding, flux core and stick welding.

Complete all general welding duties as required.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a High School Diploma with 1-2 years of industry related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Other requirements include:

Highly motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Proven ability to adhere to and maintain workplace health and safety initiatives.

Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

Ability to keep accurate records and measurements.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Strong focus on providing valuable customer service.

Forklift training, WHMIS and TDG training certifications are an asset.
