Position Description:
SMAW Welder with Mechanic Experience (SCA)

Experienced welder familiar with field welding on aluminum and steel parts working to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys;

Mechanic experience working with wheeled and/or track vehicles;

Retrofit Team travels throughout the U.S. working on military bases or facilities;

Ensure Supervisor/Manager is aware of critical issues and able to make appropriate decisions based on information supplied;

Perform other duties as assigned by Leadership responsible for maintenance.

Position Requirements:

  • Must have one (1) or more years of welding experience or formal weld training in lieu of experience, able to weld on aluminum and steel parts, working within required tolerances, and able to read welding symbols;
  • Must be willing to travel within the United States and overseas to perform welding tasks in the field when required;
  • Short term assignments to Germany, Poland, Kuwait, and other oversea locations.

Certifications are required for being a welder, including vertical and overhead.

You must qualify in both welding postions within the first 80 hours of weld training.

There is a max of three certification plates to pass.

Able to maintain welding certifications or to obtain certifications as required, including but not limited to certifying in Stick in all positions;

Must have mechanical experience working on wheeled and/or track vehicles;

High School diploma or equivalent;

Must be a U.S. person;

Must be able to gain access military bases or facilities;

Able to secure and maintain a NACI and United States Passport, if required;

Must successfully pass a deployment physical that meets CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) requirements, if required;

Must be willing to travel within the United States to perform welding tasks in the field when required;

Must be able to work independently and be an integral member of the Retrofit Team;

Must have a valid State Driver’s License and be able to obtain a military license and meet the anthropometric requirements to entry into a drivers station or into an enclosed military vehicle;

Required to work at various heights, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, able to climb, to work in enclosed spaces – often in awkward positions, extreme temperatures and dusty environments;

Be able to work autonomously with U.S. or foreign government personnel.
