Overview

Position Summary

This position works within our Welding and Assembly department to plan, erect, join and clean fabricated components to build the best steel equipment on the market. During production, you must be able to interpret engineering drawings to ensure the parts are being produced according to specifications. Accuracy is crucial to our production, so all candidates must have attention to detail and be extremely focused on their work.

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday 7AM – 3:30PM (overtime available, but not required)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings to properly plan fitting operations.
  • Directs and assists in collection of materials, handling components, placing bolts and drift pins for proper layout.
  • Lays out work lines or fits up jigs for positioning material when required; checks, squares, and scribes all detail connections
  • Cleans up material by grinding or chipping.
  • Welds on ground level, above ground, and below ground, in any required position.
  • Chips, peens and grinds material to prepare for welding or finish.
  • Welds structural materials such as plates, sheets, tanks, pipes, etc.
  • Occasionally works on uncommon structural metals under close tolerances of heat application and workmanship.
  • Analyze products for quality and defects
  • Actively identify and contribute opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency in assigned area
  • May assist with establishing work instructions and guidelines for Assemblers and Welders to perform the functions of their jobs.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to management immediately
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of work area; keep all work areas clean and organized and all machines, tools, and equipment and work surfaces free of oil, grease, etc.
  • Willing to learn and take on additional tasks as assigned; other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Welder or similar role in a manufacturing or comparable work environment
  • Experience using various welding equipment and accessories
  • Must be safety conscious working with equipment and follow safety procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge in design, mathematics, mechanics, processing and production
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desires result by reading blueprints, drawings, etc.
  • Ability to read and follow basic technical drawings and diagrammed instructions
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of safety rules and precautions necessary for working in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment; cooperate and work proactively with others is a must
  • Good communication skills; ability to communicate with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Good attendance and punctuality is a must; reliable transportation
  • Problem-solving with basic troubleshooting skills is required
  • Attention-to-Detail; values precision and adhere to a high quality standards
  • Mechanical Skills; basic mathematical calculations using decimals, fractions and/or metrics
  • Ability to perform basic shop math

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Work in an enclosed, indoor manufacturing/machine shop environment; exposed to dust, heat, humidity, and cold weather conditions dependent on local weather conditions. Required to work in areas that are near moving mechanical parts
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 30 lbs. frequently
  • The noise level in the machine shop is considered moderate while operating machinery, equipment, and tools
  • Frequently use of fingers and hands to handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
