As per the Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for Parks Canada Agency, employees must attest to their vaccination status. Duties
As a Welder with Parks Canada, you’ll be providing integral support for the Highway Operations Unit in one of Canada’s most iconic places, while applying your skills and knowledge in a diverse workplace. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Provide welding, machining, and fabricating services
  • Repair and modify equipment, vehicles, machinery, and structures
  • Participate in developing designs and modifications to equipment, machinery, and structures
  • Maintain logs, records, and databases as necessary

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Our Welders support the Highway Operations Unit in routine and unique welding tasks on fleet vehicles, snow plows, and heavy equipment. In this position, you will work collaboratively with a comprehensive team of supervisors, mechanics, and highway maintenance crews to help keep our highways and corridors operational year round.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to fill an indeterminate vacancy in Banff, AB. However, a qualified list may also be established to fill future needs- indeterminate, term, acting throughout the Highway Operations Unit.. This process may be used to establish a qualified list for various tenures and other operating areas.

BC Journeyman Welding Certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal*

*Important Information: Should an insufficient number of qualified Welders apply, Apprentices may be considered, so all are encouraged to apply.

Degree equivalency

Valid Class 5 driver’s license

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Training and experience in welding and fabrication
EX2: Training or experience in repair of automotive and heavy equipment

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE
K1: Knowledge of welding, cutting and brazing.
K2: Knowledge of safety measures and safety regulations common to garage operations

ABILITIES
A1: Ability to use standard equipment (e.g., Mig and Tig welders, Aluminum Welders, plasma cutters)
A2: Ability to read schematics/drawings, understand and use manuals (both print and online) and use diagnostic tools
A3: Ability to weld, repair and manufacture a variety of equipment and structures using different metal types and methods
A4: Ability to effectively communicate orally
A5: Ability to effectively communicate in writing

PERSONAL SUITABILITY

Reliability Status security clearance – Obtain and maintain reliability status security clearance
