The Welder, Borger Refinery performs welding operations both in the shop and in the field required for all phases of maintenance and construction at the refinery. The starting rate of pay for a Welder is $34.20/hour with the ability to reach top craft pay within 48 months, which is $46.64/hour.

This position requires successful completion of aptitude, behavioral and skills testing and an on-site interview. Candidates who receive an offer of employment will then be required to successfully complete a pre-employment due diligence process including, but not limited to, a background check, medical, hearing, and respiratory exams, and agility testing.

Relocation assistance (Non Exempt Relocation Policy) may be available for this position.

Responsibilities May Include:
Fabricate or make repairs to vessels, tanks, exchangers, piping system or other equipment that requires repair in the field

Weld all materials commonly found in a refinery such as carbon steel, chrome, stainless, cast iron, Monel, Hastelloy, and aluminum; must be code certified

Fabricate pipe spools or piping systems from engineering drawings, layout and fabricate stub-ins, offsets and laterals, and make weld repairs by cladding, patching, banding, and installing couplings

Weld in all work positions using SMAQ and GTAQ processes, weld with Tungsten Inert Gases (TIG) and Metallic Inert Gases (MIG), use large hydraulic and pneumatic tools and operating motorized and manual equipment

Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country without restrictions

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Must be at least 18 years of age

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license

Willingness to comply with the following items, with or without reasonable accommodation:

Work shift schedule, including but not limited to days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shift

Work overtime

Work in enclosed/confined spaces, such as tanks and silos

Work near large, hot, high-speed machines

Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

Work outside in harsh weather conditions

Climb up to 250 feet in height

Lift a minimum of 50 pounds

Perform firefighting duties

Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)

Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and high temperature

Able to read at a level to understand technical procedures, documents, and materials

Learn computer software associated with process operations

Preferred Qualifications:
2 or more years of Military experience as a welder

Technical certification for Welder (or higher) or code certified with minimum of 2 years of directly applicable equivalent work experience

2 or more years of direct experience working in a refinery and/or chemical industry

Experience with SAP’s Maintenance Module or other ERP Maintenance modules

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

Accepts ownership, is accountable, and delivers on commitments

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
