Job Description: The Welder is responsible for the welding/burning work at the site level and on specific projects while ensuring all areas of compliance are met or exceeding requirements. The Welder must be able to work as part of the team by sharing their knowledge and expertise and working alongside the other employees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Culture

  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics
  • Read and Interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
  • Welders operate manual and/or semi-automatic welding equipment to weld ferrous and non- ferrous metals.
  • Operate manual and/or semi-automatic flame cutting equipment and plasma cutting equipment.
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
  • Adjust welding heads and tooling according to work specifications.
  • Insure that there are adequate supplies on hand to complete the work in an efficient manner.
  • Perform Pre-Operational inspections on all equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance work such as cleaning and lubricating equipment components and assemblies.
  • Perform fire watch duties as assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports: surveys, progress and/or safety.
  • Researches information from various sources, including colleagues, to complete assignments and duties related to construction projects.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Superintendent.

Tools & Equipment Company specified tools for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Computer equipment and various software programs

Skills

  • Completion of High School, trade, vocational and/or technical training
  • Welding Trade Certificate
  • Ability to supervise employees and sub-contractors.
  • 5+ years welding experience, preferably on a construction/marine site.
  • Reading Blueprints and Specifications is beneficial.
  • Maintaining log books.
  • Cleaning and Maintaining Equipment.
  • Major & Minor Repairs, Structural, and Equipment.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.
  • WHMIS Training
  • First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Ability to Obtain an Enhanced Reliability/Security check.
  • Ability to manage technical contracts and projects.
  • Clean Driving Record and Abstract.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Abstract.
  • Ability to Travel and Work Out-Doors in a Marine Environment
  • Must be able to adapt and operate effectively within new and challenging environments
  • Up to date knowledge of current industry trends and equipment
  • Must possess excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications and computerized accounting software.

Decision Making This position has limited decision making ability. Most significant cost decisions will be made within budget parameters and in consultation with the Welding/Burning Foreman.

Inside/Outside Relationships This position deals with external suppliers and customers occasionally and must be able to maintain a professional and business-like attitude at all times. This position deals with employees on a daily basis and must be able to maintain a business-like attitude and work as part of a team at all times.

Position Conditions This position works in both an office environment and a manufacturing environment and has the flexibility to move around during a shift, including sitting, standing, bending and lifting. This position works in a manufacturing environment and has exposure to dust, fumes, heat, and cold temperatures and must be able to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment as required. This position works on a computer and must be able to focus for specific periods of time. This position uses the phone as a tool on a routine basis and must be able to have good hearing skills. This position must travel on a routine basis.
