JOB

General Summary: The welder works in the CIP Weld Shop and on site at BREC construction projects, operating acetylene and electric arc welding equipment, drill press, track torch, plasma cutter, etc. Work includes erecting, repairing, and rebuilding metal structures, equipment, and parts including pavilions, vehicle parts, cages, fences, and other equipment for use by CIP and recreational facilities.

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Preferred: Ten (10) or more years related experience, at least three (3) years full-time at BRECKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of arc & mig welding and acetylene torch useConsiderable knowledge of the properties of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in weldingConsiderable knowledge of occupational hazards and safe operations of the tradeAbility to read blueprintsGood communication/interpersonal skills Must have a positive attitude with the willingness and desire to learn new skillsAbility to adjust to changing work demands, procedures, technology, and/or prioritiesSkill in the use & operation of welding tools & machinesAbility to direct the work of construction techs and LaborersAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, department managers, and the publicAbility to drive a BREC vehicle to perform the essential functions of the job

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Functions and Job Duties: Cleans and preheats metals, selecting proper welding heat, type and size of electronics electrodes forcorrect penetration and strength of welded metals.Joins metal parts or pieces by heating, and with or without filler metal.Turns cranks, pushes buttons to operate machinery, adjusts joints, etc.Runs welding machine while observing meters and gauges to monitor compliance with procedures.Repairs and rebuilds various types of construction equipment, parts, trailers and trucks.Builds fences and gates and other metal work designed for park improvements.Builds pipe rails for parking lots and security cages over heaters and air conditioners.Complies with employee rules and regulations as established by BREC, adhering to safety regulations and principles.Provides instruction and guidance to construction technicians and laborers. Secondary Job Duties: General repair of metal work such as signs, cages, and gates at the zoo, parks, and ball fields. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Days/Hours Worked: Four (4) days per week – Monday through Thursday, ten (10) hours per day, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Seldom required, but occasional weekend work possible.
