SteelCraft Structures Welder/Crew Lead

We are a metal carport manufacturing company located here in Statesville. We produce metal carports and garages ranging from 12’x20′ all the way up to 60’x70′. We are a young company just hitting our 2 year mark but growing very quickly and wanting to expand. One of our current crew leads started off as a crew worker and went through welding training before moving on to running his own crew.

Welder/Crew Lead Job Description

The welder/crew lead is responsible for managing and leading a fab crew team. This person will be responsible for ensuring all groups provided to him are produced by the team in an efficient amount of time with quality work. All components and items produced must be to a certain precision to ensure installation can be completed effectively. The welder/crew lead is responsible for understanding how to operate all pieces of equipment in the fab shop and training of all crew personnel. This person must have the ability to work with little supervision but also work with the fab shop team to produce and finish groups. The welder/crew lead is responsible for meeting deadlines set by the Plant Manager and the General Manager.

Welder/Crew Lead Responsibilities:

  • Ability to operate all equipment in shop including the welder
  • Ability to train all personnel on equipment in the shop
  • Ability and willingness to float and perform any job as needed
  • Read customer paperwork, blueprints, and drawings
  • Oversee the production of components for the group
  • Ensure all items are produced correctly according to the paperwork
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Ability and willingness to float and perform other jobs as needed
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Responsible for following and improving procedures for production of groups
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding company goals in regard to production
  • Must be able to manage own schedule and complete multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Must be able to independently initiate steps toward problem resolution in an efficient and effective manner
  • Responsible for regular communications with the Plant Manager and other departments

Welder/Crew Lead Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum two years experience preferred
  • Proven experience using a variety of shop equipment
  • Proven experience in welding
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face- shield, gloves etc.)
  • Ability to work well under limited supervision
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Great communication skills
  • Have a valid driver license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 – $23.00 per hour
