Welder/Fabricator (Full-Time)

Consider applying your skills with the growing Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens dedicated facilities team who support projects that inspire discovery and appreciation of the Earth’s wildlife through innovative experiences in a caring environment.

You will assist with the many improvement, repair, preventative maintenance, and fabrication projects at the Zoo that will provide you with unique opportunities. Candidate must have knowledge and demonstrated ability in MIG and Stick welding. Duties included repairs, safe use of hand tools, shop machine, ladders, etc. You must be able to follow instructions and work independently at times. This position will require flexibility of working hours including weekends, holidays, and special events.

Previous construction, machine shop experience is preferred. Good communication skills, ability to use a technician’s computer tablet to document work along with the ability to work in a team environment are required. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without difficulty, traverse zoo grounds on foot, must be able to stoop, bend, lift, kneel, crawl, climb ladders and stairs, work at heights, squat, lift overhead, dig, rake, sweep, push, pull and safely operate machinery. A valid driver’s license is required.

Candidates must also be available to work special events that may occur outside of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends or holidays, as assigned, and ability to work independently, exercising independent judgment and discretion.
