Role and Responsibilities

Summary

The welder is responsible for the layout and welding of components per order and the timely delivery of welded parts to appropriate areas of production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other welding material by applying appropriate welding techniques.

Interprets blueprints, work orders, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process.

Assist in the training and development of less experienced personnel.

Maintain accurate control of inventory, ensuring the availability of parts, materials, tools and equipment necessary to efficiently complete the assigned tasks.

Follow CAE USA Inc.’s workmanship standards and manufacturing procedures/work instructions.

Work as a team member to aid others in upholding and maintaining departmental standards including quality goals and on-time delivery goals.

Execute all Standard Operating Procedures as they pertain to manufacturing related duties.

Inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness.

Repair products by dismantling for reassembly.

Manufacture or repair non-production items such as shelves, carts, racks, tables, etc.

Clean, grind, and perform inspections as required to insure conformance to specifications.

Run small lathes and mills to fabricate own parts.

Responsible for the study of prints, drawings and specifications to complete finished welds and lay out of tasks using specialized computer welding equipment.

Proficiently use all approved hand gauges to inspect component quality at the work center.

Process and inspect work in accordance to prints.

Perform a sequence of operations, consistently maintaining the performance level set for quality and quantity.

Understand and execute safety rules and regulations to prevent unsafe set-ups, operations or acts, which may cause injury to self, others or the environment.

Welding on all types of metal including titanium, nickel alloy carbon steel and aluminum.

Perform mechanical set-ups and changeovers for all welding operations.

Assembler duties as assigned.

Machinist Assistant as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Welders shall be qualified or able to be qualified in accordance with requirements of AWS D17.1 Section 9 for non-flight hardware for the following materials and weld types: Aluminum with material thicknesses ranging from .040-.750 for GTAW, AC, Vertical-up, Carbon steel with material thicknesses ranging from .040-.750 for GTAW, DC, Vertical-up. The qualifying weld types are Sheet Groove (1G, 3G), Tube Groove (1G), Sheet Fillet (1F, 2F, 3F), Tube Fillet (1F).

Must possess knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures.

Must have sound understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards.

Must be able to perform work assignments with little or no supervision.

Must have ability to interpret and rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Must have the ability to read blue prints, work orders and use a computer.

Must have the ability to operate plasma and other conventional cutting torches.

Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Must be committed to quality and customer focused

Security Responsibilities

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

Incumbent must be eligible for DOD Personal Security Clearance.

Noise level is loud. (Example: manufacturing area)

Must possess manual dexterity and excellent hand eye coordination.

Ability to stand or sit over 2/3 of the time or walk under 1/3 of the time.

Use hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time.

Reach with hands and arms over 2/3 of the time.

Climb or balance on an approved safety ladder under 1/3 of the time.

Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl under 1/3 of the time.

Talk or hear 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds over 2/3 of the time.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 to none of the time.

Must meet vision requirements in accordance with AWS certification

Welders shall have vision acuity of 20/30 or better in either eye, and shall be able to read the Jaeger No. 2 Eye Chart at 16 in [400 mm].

Corrected or uncorrected vision may be used to achieve eye test requirements. If corrected vision is required to pass eye test requirements, then that fact shall be notated on qualification records.

Vision shall be tested to these requirements at least every two years.
